Iverson to take part in 'Battle'?

Posted: September 22, 2011

As Sunday's anticipated "Battle For I-95" gets closer, the latest rumor is that former 76ers star Allen Iverson may join Team Philly as it takes on Team Melo at the Palestra in a game featuring NBA players from Philadelphia and Baltimore.

One of the most popular athletes in Philadelphia history, Iverson is scheduled to be in town Saturday night to host "The Return," a VIP event at the Vault Ultra Lounge, 460 N. Second St.

Game organizer Rahim Thompson said, "No comment," when asked about Iverson's plans. Iverson has the same agent, Leon Rose, as fellow game participants Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James, and Chris Paul. Rose's receptionist said she had no information on that matter.

The only time James played at the Palestra, as a high schooler in 2002, Iverson sat at press row wearing an oversize Sixers coat and matching flat-brim hat. Iverson played alongside Team Philly guard Lou Williams when Iverson returned to the Sixers in December 2009. He spent part of last season playing professionally in Turkey.
