ST. LOUIS - Willie Harris' two-run single capped a six-run ninth inning as the New York Mets rallied for an 8-6 win over St. Louis on Thursday to drop the Cardinals two games behind Atlanta in the NL wild-card race.

The loss dropped St. Louis two games behind idle Atlanta for the wild card, with each team having six games left. The Cardinals lost for only the third time in 16 games.

Shortstop Rafael Furcal misplayed a potential double-play grounder at the start of the Mets' six-run burst, fueling the comeback with his fifth error in six games.

Up, 6-2, the Cardinals walked three batters in helping the Mets take the lead. Harris drew a walk to begin the inning and capped it with a tiebreaking, two-run single with two outs.

Rays 15, Yankees 8. Matt Moore struck out 11 in five innings of his first major-league start and visiting Tampa Bay unloaded on a watered-down lineup for a win one night after the Yankees clinched the AL East title.

The Rays avoided a four-game sweep and pulled within two games on idle Boston in the AL wild-card race. Both teams have six games left.

Tampa Bay took advantage of four Yankees errors, two by shortstop Derek Jeter.

Blue Jays 4, Angels 3. Edwin Encarnacion hit a game-ending home run in the 12th inning, and Toronto beat Los Angeles, dealing the Angels another blow in their chase for a playoff berth.

Encarnacion led off the 12th with a drive down the left-field line off Garrett Richards (0-2), his 17th homer of the season.

Shawn Camp (5-3) worked one inning for the win as the Blue Jays improved to 11-0 in extra-inning games at home. Toronto is the first known team to win 10 or more extra-inning home games without a defeat.

The defeat dropped the Angels three games behind idle Boston in the wild card race.
