Fumble helps L. Merion rally past Neumann-Goretti

A crucial turnover turned into a game-winning touchdown as Lower Merion clawed back to down visiting Neumann-Goretti, 28-25, in nonleague football on Saturday.

Tyler Williams recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter to set up Ernest Pendelton for a game-winning, 30-yard score.

Pendelton also rushed for a 60-yard touchdown in the first quarter.

Chester 22, Fels 0 - Darrell Nicholson gained 103 yards and rushed for two TDs as host Chester (2-2) knocked off Fels (1-3). Nicholson averaged 6.1 yards on 17 carries and also recorded an interception. Justyn Chase led the Clippers defense with two interceptions.

Chestnut Hill 35, Conwell-Egan 6 - Cedric Madden rushed for four TDs, three in the first quarter, as host Chestnut Hill (1-3) raced to a big win over Conwell-Egan (0-4). Madden finished with 205 yards on 23 carries.

Episcopal Academy 11, Hill School 8 - Two second-half safeties, combined with Anthony Seliziani's short TD run, rallied Episcopal (2-2) past the visiting Blues (0-2).

Archbishop Ryan 42, Archbishop Carroll 20 - Ryan's (3-1) Mike Anusky completed 8 of 10 passes for 163 yards and three TDs, and Dylan Rowan ran for 103 yards in the win at Carroll (1-3).

Bishop McDevitt 28, Mastery Charter 0 - Keith Young provided all the offense as the host Lancers (3-1) rolled over Mastery Charter (1-2). Young rushed for four scores, including a 42-yard scamper in the second quarter and a 32-yard score in the third.

Father Judge 45, Penn Charter 14 - Matt Smalley rushed for three scores, and Judge (3-1) knocked off visiting Penn Charter (1-2).

Penn Charter's Eric Neefe (124 yards) and Daryl Worley (121) combined for 245 yards on the ground.

Central League

Eric Pollock caught a scoring pass from Ryan Strain, and Rob Murphy ran for two TDs as Springfield (Delco) blanked host Haverford High (1-3, 1-2), 27-0.

Harriton 34, Upper Darby 27 - Pat Moriarty's four TD passes staked host Harriton (3-1) to a 34-6 halftime advantage.

Ches-Mont League

Avon Grove (2-2, 1-0) stopped a late drive by visiting Bishop Shanahan (2-1,0-1) and held on for a 24-21 win. The Avon Grove defense intercepted three passes and J.T. Blyden rushed for 142 yards and a TD on 33 carries.

Garrett Mayhart nailed a career-long, 46-yard field goal in the second quarter for the Red Devils. Ryan Egolf threw for 304 yards and two scores for Shanahan.

Oxford 27, Sun Valley 20 - Vic Jenkins rushed for two short scores, and the Hornets (3-1, 1-0) held off visiting Sun Valley (0-1, 0-4).

Thomas Sanchez finished with 109 receiving yards and Ethan Herb threw for 156 yards on 8-for-15 passing.

Pioneer Ath. Conference

Brandon Bossard threw for 178 yards and rushed for 109 as he led Methacton (0-2, 2-2) to a win at Pope John Paul II (1-3, 0-3), 31-21.

Suburban One League

Hatboro-Horsham (3-1, 1-0) stormed off to three straight scores and ran away with a 40-14 win over visiting Central Bucks East (0-4, 0-1).

Travis Young opened the scoring with first-quarter TD runs of 55 and 54 yards.

Norristown 34, Upper Merion 6 - Brandon Shippen's touchdown runs of 20, 2, and 40 yards over the last three quarters allowed the Eagles (3-1, 1-0) to pull away from host Upper Merion (0-4, 0-1).

Bicentennial/Independence

Travis McCurdy rushed for a score, returned a kickoff 85 yards for a TD, and hauled in two more as Academy of the New Church (2-1, 1-0) downed visiting Lower Moreland (0-4, 0-3), 27-13.

Springfield (M) 42, New Hope-Solebury 13 - The combination of Doug Bauer's passing (182 yards, TD) and Clay Ewell's running (148 yards, two TDs) fueled the Spartans (4-0) past visiting New Hope (3-1).
