West Catholic's lengthy baseball agony is over.

Brother Tim Ahern, the school's president, confirmed Thursday to Gene Otto, the Catholic League's baseball commissioner, that West will not field a team in 2012.

The Burrs went 8-168 in CL play in their final 12 seasons and posted an 81-game league losing streak before topping now-defunct Cardinal Dougherty, 9-5, on May 11, 2009.

Story continues below.

Their last league win, thanks to pitcher Rich "Dizzy" Henderson and a seven-run, sixth-inning outburst, was a 12-5 verdict over Bishop McDevitt on May 17, 2010. They went 0-12 in '11.

West last won the title in 1979 - 4-2 over Father Judge - behind a future minor leaguer, lefty Bill Mendek.
