Phils Fans Creating Hubbub On Stubhub

THE DRAMA that unfolded on baseball's final day reminded everyone just how riveting the game can be and created a stir among fans eager to see an equally exciting postseason.

In a little under 24 hours, the frenzy spilled over to StubHub, the official secondary ticket marketplace of the MLB. According to a Phillies ticket office spokesperson, going through the secondary market is the only way to acquire a postseason ticket - which is perhaps the reason StubHub witnessed a 40 percent spike in page views yesterday.

Story continues below.

According to Joellen Ferrer, communications manager for StubHub, the Phillies trail only the Yankees in page views, followed by the Rangers, Brewers Tigers, Cardinals, Rays and Diamondbacks.

"Overall demand for this year's playoffs is higher than ever and we've seen a noticeable spike in activity as soon as [Wednesday's] games ended," said Ferrer. "With demand at it's peak, prices have followed suit, however we'll see fluctuations later this week as the market settles."

Ticket prices for the Phillies NLDS opener against the Cardinals at Citizens Bank tomorrow start around $75 each for upper-level and standing-room-only seats and average around $125 per for lower-level. The highest price found was $5,000 for infield seats in Section 131. As of late yesterday, there were over 3,100 tickets available. Additionally, some fans are nibbling at potential NLCS tickets, which were averaging $150 a ticket late yesterday, and World Series tickets that were averaging $450 a pop.

StubHub offers fans the opportunity to purchase tickets risk free and will issue a full refund for any games not played.

"The benefit of buying now is the market hasn't set [for these future games], so fans can find potential value," said Ferrer.
