The lefty is 56-for-108 for 1,051 yards and 16 touchdowns, and Friday, he dropped six passing scores on Overbrook, tying the Public League record. Two apiece went to Renz "Rodeo" Compton, Marquan Scott and Savoy Martin. Aaron Allison (currently hurt), Mike Brown, Brandon Strong and Kelly Johnson have also made snags.
"This is fun," DiGiorgio said. "I know all these guys and we have good chemistry. I can throw to anybody and that makes it easy.
"Every quarterback likes to throw the ball down the field, but I'm liking how I can throw short to these guys in space and watch them make plays."
The 6-2, 170-pound DiGiorgio, who last season led the Chargers to the Pop Warner 160-pound national final in Florida, said first-year Pioneers coach Will Doggett was low-key about the change in offense.
"As soon as school ended and we came out for summer workouts, it was just there, our new offense," DiGiorgio said. "We worked together and got comfortable with it. I grew up with Aaron. Have known him since age 6. And I played with Savoy for Moss [youth organization] at 10. And Renz was with me last year on the Chargers."
As the conversation wound down, DiGiorgio had a favor to ask.
"Can you mention my linemen?" he said.
Sure. They're center Lorenz Compton (Rodeo's twin), guards Geoffrey Phillippe, Tyrone "Bubbles" Tunnell and Darius Williams (part-timer), and tackles Anthony Capers and Ronnie Parrish.
