Pa. Girls: Garnet Valley gets by Springfield (D), 3-2

With under 7 minutes left in regulation, Eleanor Kirby provided the difference as she connected on a penalty stroke to lead Garnet Valley past host Springfield (Delaware County), 3-2, in a Central League field hockey matchup.

Emily Murphy recorded five saves to post the win, while Molly Savage and Eleanor Kirby added earlier goals for the Jaguars. Meghan Dickinson and Nicole Kane recorded goals for Springfield.

In other Central League action, Morgan Druce scored a go-ahead goal in the first half and Haverford High held off Radnor, 3-2. Mia DePlato turned away five shots for the win and Jessica McCarthy added two goals for the Fords.

Strath Haven scored once in each half and both goals came off the stick of Alex Bonser as the Panthers knocked off visiting Upper Darby, 2-0. Both of Bonser's scores came from the top of the circle and Andrea Golden had three saves for the shutout.

Catholic Academies. Three St. Basil first half goals propelled the host Panthers to an easy 3-0 win over Villa Joseph Marie. Christine McIntyre recorded the shutout with 10 saves and Madeleine Brownsey recorded a goal and assist.

After trailing by one at the half, Sacred Heart rallied for two scores in the second half to knock off host Merion Mercy, 3-2. Jordana Cech scored the game-winner on a stroke with 1 minute, 46 seconds left in regulation.

 Suburban One. Carly Pickford scored a second half goal and just her second of the season to lift North Penn over visiting Pennridge, 1-0. Pickford was assisted by Bobby Dougherty. Shannon Keen posted the shutout with two saves.

Rachel Valentine scored scored midway through the second half to lift visiting Souderton over Central Bucks South, 1-0. Morgan Brozena recorded the shutout with four saves.

Three different goal scorers led to a 3-1 win for Wissahickon at Norristown. Jackie Hibbs recorded both a goal and assist.

Amanda Fuertsch scored twice and Heather Morris added another as Owen J. Roberts knocked off host Methacton, 3-2.

 Nonleague. Alyssa Reuger scored the game-winner in the second half to lift host Jenkintown over Cheltenham, 1-0.

 

Soccer

Jackie Glansfield scored midway through the first half after receiving a nicely placed through ball in the box to lift Garnet Valley over Central League foe Springfield (Delaware County), 1-0.

Carolyn Schwartz recorded six saves to post the shutout, while Stacey Porter had 13 saves for Garnet Valley.
