C.B. South routs Quakertown

After missing all of last season because of a torn left anterior cruciate ligament, Central Bucks South's Dan Brown has been busy making up for lost time.

On Thursday night, the 5-foot-8, 180-pound senior starred in several ways while leading the host Titans to a 37-13 romp over Quakertown in a Suburban One League Continental Conference football matchup in Warrington.

"I rehabbed for about four or five months," Brown said. "The physical therapy did wonders. It brought my knee to a strength it's never been before."

At running back, Brown carried 21 times for 182 yards and three touchdowns. On a 12-play possession in the fourth quarter, he ran nine times for 72 yards, including a 1-yard dive that closed the scoring.

"They hit him tonight, but as you saw on that last drive, he wore them down," C.B. South coach Dave Rackovan said.

The Titans improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference. They have won two straight since losing to defending conference champion North Penn. The Panthers, held to 135 rushing yards, slipped to 4-2 and 1-1.

Late in the third quarter, Brown, who had one catch for 25 yards, posted a 49-yard, right-side TD run. He also contributed as a kick returner, taking back the game-opening boot 36 yards to help set up Matt Johns' 21-yard TD dash.

For the season, Brown has rushed 81 times for 657 yards and 14 scores. The Chalfont resident has seven catches for 97 yards. On kick returns, he is averaging better than 40 yards.

In the second quarter, Titans halfback Bobby Mallon ran around right end for a 13-yard TD that capped a 10-play, 65-yard series.

"The offensive line was great," said Brown, who is hearing from Bucknell and Bryant. "It's been like that every game. I know every time I touch the ball that I have a chance to score."

C.B. South, trailing by 13-7 early in the second quarter, posted 30 unanswered points. The 6-5, 200-pound Johns, who is headed to the University of Virginia, hit on 9 of 13 throws for 148 yards.

Quakertown's Zac Gravelle, a dual-threat senior QB, made good on 16 of 32 passes for 148 yards. He ran 16 times for 64 yards.

Before sustaining a hard hit early in the fourth quarter on an attempted catch across the middle, Panthers running back Justin Wieder netted 74 yards on 12 attempts.
