1 dead, 3 hurt in West Philly crash

A 47-year-old woman was killed early today in a collision between the minivan in which she was a passenger and an SUV in West Philadelphia, police said.

The van's male driver and the man and woman inside the SUV, a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban, also were hurt and were reported in stable condition a the Hospital of the University Pennsylvania, police said.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates the Suburban and a 1995 Nissan Quest both ran stop signs at the 4-four-way stop at 51st and Locust Streets about 2:15 a.m.

The impact flipped the Quest, which struck a parked cars, landed on its roof and hit the porch of a house, police said. The Suburban also ran into a second parked car.

Rescue crews had to extract all four people from their vehicles, officials said.

The female passenger in the Quest was pronounced dead at the scene by medics at 2:44 a.m., police said.

The investigation is continuing and no charges have been filed yet.
