Thurs. Pa. girls’ roundup: Strath Haven clinches Central

Strath Haven waited until the last possible minute of Thursday's soccer match against visiting Penncrest to clinch the Central League championship.

Morgan Glassford, who assisted on Kristen Miller's game-tying goal in the second half, broke a 1-1 tie with 42 seconds left in overtime to give the Panthers a 2-1 win and their second straight league crown.

Penncrest had taken a 1-0 halftime lead on Paige Phillips' goal, and Miller, who assisted on the winning goal, scored after intermission to force the extra period.

Catholic. Conwell-Egan freshman Maddy Michaels slipped while taking a shot in the second overtime period, but the ball still slipped under the crossbar with 3 minutes left to give Michaels her first varsity goal and lift the Eagles to a 2-1 win at Archbishop Carroll.

Archbishop Ryan squeezed past visiting St. Hubert, 1-0, on Brittany Robinson's goal in the 49th minute from Scarlett Walsh, and Jasmine Gonzalez's four saves.

Lansdale Catholic stifled host Cardinal O'Hara, 2-0, with goals by Erin Brokans and Bryn Wassel.

Catholic Academies. Olivia Rosenberger knocked a loose ball into the net 3 minutes into overtime to end Gwynedd-Mercy's 2-1 win at Merion Mercy. Monarchs goalie Courtney Sullivan made a key save with 10 seconds left in regulation.

Mariana Solecki's first-half goal from Josie Mustin proved to be the game-winner for Mount St. Joseph in a 2-1 victory over visiting Nazareth Academy.

Inter-Ac. Kristina Zahan scored the first two goals, setting the tone for Episcopal Academy's 4-0 win at Agnes Irwin.

 

Field Hockey

Sophomore Moira Putsch, who returned to the Notre Dame lineup Oct. 3 after an ACL injury, assisted Victoria Monzo's goal and scored an unassisted goal 1:05 into overtime to beat visiting Merion Mercy, 2-1, in a nonleague game.

Early goals by Nicole Dominick and Megan Donegan helped Academy Park defeat host Friends Select, 2-0. Knights goalie Brianna Macauley made 10 saves.

Katie Woolf's second goal of the game for Morrisville was scored 5 minutes into the second half for a 2-1 win over visiting Solebury School.

Inter-Ac. Unbeaten Episcopal Academy (13-0-1) slipped past host Agnes Irwin, 1-0, on Giana Pileggi's five-save goaltending and Alana Dumas' goal from Carly Cicotti.

Catholic. Carlie Spaeder scored twice, and Grace Boston added a goal and three assists for Cardinal O'Hara during a 5-0 win at Archbishop Ryan.
