Haddon Township clinches share of Colonial Conference Patriot title in boys' soccer

After seeing limited action because of illness, Haddon Township's Zach Curl delivered the goal that clinched at least a share of the Colonial Conference Patriot Division boys' soccer championship on Monday.

The Hawks (13-3 overall, 10-3 division) beat host Gateway, 1-0, on Curl's 14th goal, and five saves by goalie Scott LaPan, who gave the Hawks their 11th shutout of the season and sixth in a row.

Curl, inserted in the game with five minutes left, beat two defenders in scoring with 4 minutes, 11 seconds remaining in the second half. Haddon Township owns a two-game lead over the Gators (13-3, 10-3) in the division with two games remaining.

The win also avenged the Hawks' only loss this season, a 6-5 setback on Sep. 27.

Zach has been our goal scorer this year," Township coach Jim Bonder said, "but he was pretty sick today so I had to limit his shifts."

Bonder also praised the work of Colin Andrew and Kevin Kasilowski, who shared duties marking South Jersey's leading scorer, Anthony Colofranson.

Also in the Colonial, Haddonfield's Johnny Alemi, P. K. Schlitt, and Brendan Werner scored a goal apiece while steering the host Bulldogs past Overbrook, 3-1.

Olympic. Shawnee had its string of five straight shutout wins snapped but the visiting Renegades held on to trip Timber Creek, 2-1, on Nick Cristea's 25-yard shot from Greg Biggiani in overtime.

 

Girls' Soccer

Top-seeded Lenape became the first team to earn a semifinal l berth in the South Jersey Coaches Tournament by beating visiting rival Shawnee, 3-0. Allison Johnson made three saves to get the shutout, while Emmy Duffey, Courtney Kovac and Rachelle Ross scored goals, aided by Katie Rigby's two assists.

Colonial. Haddon Heights beat visiting West Deptford for just the second time in school history, 3-2. Taylor Nichols' second goal of the game was a 16-yarder for the game-winner, assisted by Chelsea Thomas.

Burlington County. With 17 seconds left in the second half, Pemberton's Kasi Cassidy scored the goal that beat host Willingboro, 4-3.

 

Girls' Volleyball

Grace Streicher became the first Cherokee player to reach 1,000 career assists with 17 in a 25-10, 25-18 win over visiting Eastern. Streicher also had four kills and three aces.
