Thurs. Pa. boys' roundup: Masterman races to Pub title

Masterman, led by individual winner Keaton Naff, placed five runners among the first 12 finishers and captured the team title in the Public League cross-country championships Thursday at Belmont Plateau.

Naff won in 17 minutes, 30 seconds over 3.1 miles, and Franklin Towne Charter's Angel Lazu was second in 17:52.

The Blue Dragons posted 33 points to lead a 25-team field. Central was second with 107 points.

Bicentennial. Zach Israel (15:48) and Ryan Horgan (16:15) finished first and second, and led Holy Ghost Prep to the Independence Division team title in the league meet at Tyler State Park. Jenkintown captured the Constitution Division crown.

Soccer

The Public League playoffs opened with Martin Luther King's Kabine Conde scoring his 23d, 24th, and 25th goals of the season in a 4-3 win over Boys' Latin at Simon Gratz. Conde gave King a 4-2 lead with 12 minutes remaining.

Lincoln advanced by blanking Science Leadership, 2-0, at Northeast. Washington Kimber's first shutout was a four-save effort in goal, and Jurgen Koco and Tasham Abdulrasool scored the goals.

Bartram sailed past Palumbo, 6-0, at Gratz as Willie Geebli and Nahom Walingle scored two goals each, and goalie Andre Morris made two saves.

John Leslie's two goals and Bill Carter's two assists fueled Franklin Towne Charter's 3-1 win over Olney at Northeast.

Ches-Mont. Unionville (14-3) clinched the American Division title with a 5-0 shutout at Coatesville. James Crowley, Ethan Fish, Andy Joseph, Matt Olsen, and Sam Yarosh scored goals.

Grant Vasi's 12th shutout for West Chester Rustin was a 2-0 win over visiting West Chester Henderson. Nick Carroll and Jamison MacMain netted goals.

Suburban One. Hatboro-Horsham edged visiting Upper Dublin, 2-1, as Ryan New assisted on second-half goals by Alex Badulak and Ryan Smith, who scored the deciding goal in the 57th minute.

Friends Schools. Friends Select's Ben Holl tied the score in the second half and Daniel Mauri netted the game-winner with five minutes left to beat host Abington Friends, 3-2.

Bicentennial. Devon Prep'a 1-0 win at MaST Charter was decided by Luka Zacharczuk's early goal and goalie Nick Weis' four saves.

Jeremy Marklund scored two goals and assisted on Yoon Chung's goal, steering Delco Christian past host Springfield (Montco), 4-1.

Penn-Jersey. In the league playoff quarterfinals, Solebury School advanced via a 4-2 win over visiting Pine Forge. The Spartans switched from a 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2 alignment and produced second-half goals by George Cai, Ethan Clearfield, Daniel Paulson, and Jason Vogel.

Nonleague. Fifth-ranked Holy Ghost Prep blanked visiting North Penn, 3-0, with goals by Tim French, Tim Lazorko, and Pierce Skelly.

Harriton's 10th win was a 4-0 success against visiting Academy Park in which Kevin Lawson scored twice, and Zach Herman and Zico Gaeffke added single goals.

 

Football

Central's Jesse Gillis ran for 155 yards and two touchdowns as the Lancers notched a 34-8 win at Furness and clinched the Public League Class AAAA Silver championship. Furness' loss assured Lincoln of second place in the division.
