Trade for Harrison is nixed

Posted: October 20, 2011

EAGLES offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg likes to say "every game is different."

The same axiom apparently applies to team physicals.

The Eagles' trade of running back Ronnie Brown to Detroit for running back Jerome Harrison and a 2013 seventh-round draft pick came undone yesterday when Harrison did not pass his Philadelphia physical. Passing the physical is a condition of NFL trades. During training camp, a trade of defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley to Cleveland fell apart when Bunkley didn't pass his Browns physical. The Eagles then shipped Bunkley to Denver, where he has started all five games this season.

Since the swap was completed just before the NFL trade deadline, the Birds will not send Brown elsewhere. Apparently, he will resume duty as the third option at running back, behind LeSean McCoy and Dion Lewis, knowing the Eagles tried to obtain a player they liked better.

"Lost for words," Brown texted to the Detroit Free Press, when asked for comment.

The Eagles did not disclose why Harrison did not pass his physical, but his last carry was in Week 3. He was traded from Cleveland to the Eagles last October, then left in free agency this summer.
