Thornton plays in game No. 1,000

Michal Handzus and Ryane Clowe scored shootout goals, and the San Jose Sharks celebrated captain Joe Thornton's 1,000th NHL game with a 4-3 victory over the host New Jersey Devils on Friday night.

Elsewhere: Johan Franzen scored two power-play goals and added an assist to help the host Detroit Red Wings (5-0-0) remain unbeaten with a 5-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Weber fined. Nashville Predators defenseman Shea Weber was fined $2,500 by the NHL on Friday for boarding Vancouver forward Jannik Hansen on Thursday night.

Weber was assessed minor penalties for boarding and unsportsmanlike conduct in the third period of Nashville's 5-1 loss.

Byfuglien pleads not guilty. Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien pleaded not guilty to four counts stemming from a boating incident in Minnesota.
