Union game time determined by wild-card round

Posted: October 24, 2011

The time of the Union's home MLS playoff game on Sunday at PPL Park against the Houston Dynamo is going to be either 4 or 5 p.m., but it won't be determined until after Thursday.

Sunday will be the first game of a two-game Eastern Conference semifinal series with Houston. The second game is set for Nov. 3 at Houston beginning at 8:30 p.m.

The playoffs begin on Wednesday with the wild-card round when the New York Red Bulls visit FC Dallas. On Thursday, the second wild-card game will be staged between the Columbus Crew and host Colorado Rapids.

According to a Major League Soccer official, the Union game will be at 4 p.m. if the Los Angeles Galaxy, the top seed in the Western Conference, faces Colorado in the conference semifinal.

If the Galaxy meets New York or Columbus, the game time for the Union will be 5 p.m.

The Galaxy can't face Dallas because, as the Supporters Shield winner for having the best regular season record, the Galaxy plays the lowest seeded wild-card team, and there is no way Dallas can be the lowest seeded wild-card.
