Fri. Pa. football roundup: Upper Dublin prevails

Andrew Derr broke through late in the game and helped lift Upper Dublin to a 17-10 home win over Wissahickon in a clash of two of the top Suburban One American teams.

Derr scored with 1 minute, 22 seconds left in the fourth quarter on a 17-yard rush to put the Cardinals (7-2 overall, 5-1 league) on top. The senior finished with more than 200 yards rushing.

Greg McDonough converted a 23-yard field goal to put Wissahickon (7-2 overall, 4-1 league) ahead in the third quarter.

Central Bucks West 44, Quakertown 39 - West (4-5, 2-4) got a 22-yard TD run from Sherrod Higginbotham and a 33-yard field goal by Nick Danilo in the fourth quarter to pull out a Continental Conference thriller over visiting Quakertown (4-5, 1-4).

For West, John Fitz completed 7 of 15 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown, and Higginbotham added 151 rushing yards on 18 carries.

Quakertown's attack featured Erik Jones' 131 passing yards for two TDs as the Panthers took a 38-16 lead in the second half.

Cheltenham 28, Upper Moreland 22 - Mark Thompson rushed for 205 yards and scored the game-winning TD with 1:30 left in the fourth quarter to lead host Cheltenham (4-5, 1-4) over Upper Moreland (0-9, 0-5).

 

Central League

Joe Viviano had his way with the Haverford High defense, and host Conestoga was able to hold on for a 22-20 win. Viviano threw for 317 yards on 20 of 31 passing to lead the Pioneers (6-3, 5-3). Davonte Carter hauled in 10 catches for 165 yards.

The Fords (5-4, 4-3) missed a two-point conversion following a Mike Clancy touchdown in the fourth quarter that would have tied the game.

Ridley 24, Upper Darby 7 -Matt Davis threw for two scores and the host Green Raiders (7-2, 6-2) eased past Upper Darby (2-7, 2-5). Matt Smoluk and Mike Crowley both hauled in touchdowns for Ridley. Upper Darby took an early seven-point lead before Ridley rattled off 24 unanswered points.

Strath Haven 28, Springfield (Delco) 7 - Visiting Strath Haven (6-3, 5-3) scored twice in the first quarter and didn't look back as it knocked off the Cougars (7-2, 6-2). Keith DeCindis rushed for three touchdowns, all from inside the 5 yard line. Mike Dougherty rushed for a 2-yard touchdown in the third quarter for Springfield's only score.

Marple Newtown 27, Radnor 13 - Four players scored touchdowns Marple Newtown (7-2, 6-2) squashed visiting Radnor (0-9, 0-7). Cimirrow Moat rushed for a 55-yard touchdown in the third quarter for the Tigers.
