The Eagles, on the other hand, still have Michael Vick, and so hope reigns as they enter Sunday night's gargantuan matchup against the Cowboys.
They also have that extra win, an easier schedule down the stretch, and three NFC East rivals that aren't exactly world beaters.
If anything, the Eagles resemble the Cowboys of this season. Both teams, statistically, are among the league leaders in many categories, but those numbers haven't translated to a winning record.
Each team can save its season - at least for another week - with a victory at Lincoln Financial Field. The Cowboys would move to 4-3 with a remaining schedule that is every bit as conquerable as the Eagles'.
For the Eagles, a 3-4 record is infinitely better than the alternative. At 3-4 they're alive and kicking and poised to again finish strong behind coach Andy Reid, a magician in the second half of the season.
If they lose, well, maybe that comparison to the 2010 Cowboys - who despite a late charge finished 7-9 - was apt after all.
Here is how they match up:
When the Eagles pass
If the Eagles can't block DeMarcus Ware then they can forget about Michael Vick's having enough time to find receivers Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson downfield. The Cowboys linebacker is second in the NFL with eight sacks and seems to be thriving under Rob Ryan, Dallas' new defensive coordinator.
