La Salle, Father Judge win soccer semifinals

La Salle and Father Judge eased to wins on Monday at Northeast High in the Catholic League boys' soccer semifinals. Now they have a date with each other.

The teams will meet at Archbishop Ryan on Wednesday afternoon at 3:15 for the league title.

On Monday night, Dylan Trush turned away six saves to post the shutout as Judge downed Roman Catholic, 3-0.

Nick Battaglia, Vontez Hilliard and Kevin Pohl scored a goal each for the Crusaders.

Khristian Hall scored twice and LaSalle knocked off rival St. Joseph's Prep, 3-0.

Leonardo Romero posted the shutout with five saves and Dillon Pierce added a goal for the Explorers.

A four-year all-Catholic selection, Hall has now scored two goals in each of La Salle's two league playoff wins.

Monday's games were originally slated for Saturday afternoon before it was postponed twice due to the weekend's weather.

District 1. Ian Fitzsimmons assisted Alec Neumann's goal in the first half and that proved to be enough as host Council Rock North downed rival Council Rock South, 1-0, in a Class AAA quarterfinal.

The junior headed in Fitzsimmons' cross of a restart in the 21st minute. Will Terry posted the shutout with eight saves.

 

Football

Hill School fell into an early hole and couldn't find their way out in a 35-13 nonleague loss to visiting Blair Academy.

The Blues (3-4, overall) allowed 14 points in the first quarter before entering the break trailing Blair by 21 points.

In the third, quarterback Grant Smith threw for two touchdowns. But, it was too late as Blair tacked on 13 more points in the fourth.

Academy of the New Church 35, Bristol 28 - Travis McCurdy scored his second touchdown of the game with just 36 seconds left in regulation as the host Lions (3-5, 2-2) rallied back to down Bristol (1-7, 1-3) in an Independence League game.

Quarterback Landon Elder found McCurdy on 4th and 10 for the 41-yard score. It was Elder's third touchdown pass of the second half, as ANC erased a 14-point halftime deficit.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 55, Upper Merion 14 -

 Russhon Phillips wasted no time setting the tone as host Plymouth Whitemarsh (7-1, 5-0) rocked Suburban One foe Upper Merion (0-8, 0-5).

On the game's first play, the Colonials quarterback rushed 66 yards for an opening touchdown.

 

Ice Hockey

Tim Brown saved 33 shots as Father Judge downed host Roman Catholic, 6-3.
