It appears that one of the area's top basketball underclassmen has made an oral commitment.
Stephen Vasturia, a 6-4 junior combo guard at St. Joseph's Prep, has picked Notre Dame, according to recruiting expert Adam Zagoria.
Zagoria cited his source as Tony Sagona, Vasturia's AAU coach with the Jersey Shore Warriors. Sagona said the decision was finalized early yesterday afternoon.
William "Speedy" Morris, the Prep's coach, would not confirm that information, but said Vasturia is holding a news conference today at 2:30 p.m. in the school's library.
Morris said Vasturia made unofficial visits to Villanova, Boston College, Georgetown and Northwestern in addition to ND and that he received more than 20 scholarship offers.
Vasturia last winter earned third-team Daily News All-City honors.
