Tues. S.J. girls' roundup: L. Cape May upsets Woodstown

MaryBeth Keeler and Steph Muller provided clutch scoring, and Rebecca Holden supplied standout goaltending, helping seventh-seeded Lower Cape May upend No. 2 seed Woodstown, 2-1 in penalty strokes, on Wednesday in a NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 field hockey quarterfinal.

Keeler and Muller traded first-half goals with the Wolverines' Liz Mitten and Amber Sickler, and the match remained deadlocked at 2 through the rest of regulation and two overtime periods - with Holden stopping 20 shots and Woodstown netminder Sarah Pedrick making 11 saves.

In the penalty-stroke shootout, Keeler and Muller again came through for the Tigers, while Jordan Kugler converted for Woodstown.

In other South Jersey Group 2 quarterfinals:

Natalie Giannascoli, Carly Linus, and Casey Sturts each scored twice to power fifth-seeded Buena to a 6-1 win at No. 4 seed GCIT.

Top-seeded Haddonfield made quick work of No. 8 seed Barnegat, 10-0, with Maddie Betley and Carolynn Clark each recording a hat trick.

Central Jersey Group 2. Krystal Valianti scored twice, and Krista LaMaina added a goal and an assist, guiding No. 2 seed Collingswood past seventh-seeded Pemberton, 4-2.

Camden Catholic goalie Isabella Dolente posted her seventh shutout of the season, Danielle Frasca recorded a hat trick, and Tara Vittese contributed two goals and two assists for the fourth-seeded Irish in a 5-0 victory over No. 5 seed Robbinsville.

Kelly Quinn, Gabby Latorre, and Alessandra Farnesi combined for seven goals and three assists, leading third-seeded Bishop Eustace past No. 6 seed Long Branch, 8-0.

Eighth-seeded Delran kept it close for a half before being ousted, 4-0, by No. 1 seed Manasquan.
