There was less than a minute left in the Public League field hockey championship on Wednesday at Germantown when Northeast was awarded a penalty corner.

The Vikings worked a play off the corner that put the ball on Emilie Thompson's stick, and she knocked in the goal that made Northeast (14-2-1) a 1-0 winner over defending champ Washington.

Thompson, whose only other goal came in one of Northeast's two regular-season shutout wins over the Eagles (9-5), converted a pass from Chloe Richardson with 54 seconds to play.

Catholic. Archbishop Carroll (15-2), which has outscored its opponents by a combined 89-11 this fall, won its fifth league championship in the last seven years with a 3-1 victory over Cardinal O'Hara at Neumann College.

After trading first-half goals, Carroll took the lead for good when Megan Kelly scored off a corner pass from her twin sister, Katie, early in the second half.

Maddie Lesher and Kerry Hunt also scored goals, and Becca Brosius was solid in goal for the Patriots, who will play Northeast in the District 12 final on Saturday.

District 1 Class AAA. Unionville goalie Sam Carlino stopped all three penalty strokes she faced in the postgame tiebreaker as the Indians got past Mount St. Joseph with a 3-0 edge in the best-of-five shootout in the playoff semifinals at North Penn.

The game was tied at 3 after regulation and overtime as Katja Hansen scored twice, and Annabeth Donovan had a goal for Unionville. The Magic got goals from Ann Burgoyne, Allie Sabia, and Brooke Sabia.
