Shipley rallied in the second half to down visiting Westtown, 3-0, on Friday afternoon to capture its fifth Friends Schools League boys' soccer title in the last 7 years.

Cal Hamilton, leading scorer Sam Marks, and Kevin Staples added goals for the Gators, while Pablo Sisniega recorded the shutout with five saves.

The Gators led by just a goal at halftime.

Head coach Thom Schauerman said that Marks, a junior forward, is a "phenomenal player who constantly creates whether he scores or assists."

Story continues below.

"He's a guy that maintains possession and everyone gravitates towards him," said the seventh-year head coach.

Sisniega, a sophomore, missed a portion of the season due to a fractured ankle. Schauerman said the goalie may have been playing on the ankle without knowing it was broken.

Friday's shutout was Sisniega's seventh of the season. Last season as a freshman, he posted 10.

The key to his team's success is its balance, Schauerman said. The Gators rely on an array of both upper and lower classmen.

"This is the most well balanced team I've ever had," said Schauerman."Not one class is heavy."

Earlier this season Shipley fell to Westtown, 1-0. The Gators played without several players due to injury and Schauerman said his team simply didn't have a good game.

Things were different on Friday.

Pa. Independent Schools. Brett Campbell scored four times to lead host Haverford School over Mercersburg Academy, 4-1, in the quarterfinal round.
