Fri. Pa. girls' roundup: Spring-Ford prevails in double-OT

After she tied the score in regulation, Gabby Major came through again in double overtime as her goal lifted Spring-Ford to a 3-2 field hockey win over Wissahickon at North Penn in the District 1 Class AAA fifth place game.

The top six teams from District 1 advance to next week's PIAA State Tournament.

Major scored all three Rams goals, as she drove home the game-winner on a pass from Alyssa Chillano.

Lauren Becker added a goal and assist for Wissahickon.

In the third-place game, Emily Ikeda scored a hat trick, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead North Penn over Mount St. Joseph, 5-4, at Wissahickon.

Pa. Independent Schools. Carly Ciccotti scored the game-winner with 10 minutes left to lift host Episcopal Academy over Agnes Irwin, 3-2, in a quarterfinal match.

 

Soccer

Tess Wei scored once in each half to lead host Friends' Central over Agnes Irwin, 2-0, in the quarterfinal round of the Pa. Independent Schools tournament.

Also in the quarterfinal, Kristen Hinckley scored a pair of goals to lift host Episcopal Academy over Penn Charter, 2-0. Ali Singley recorded 5 saves for her 12th shutout.

With less than 2 minutes left on the clock, Sarah Armato fired home the game-winner to lift host Germantown Academy over Shipley, 2-1.

Fran Sweeney scored for the Patriots early in the first half.

District 1. The last seeded team in the 28-team field is headed to the state playoffs as Lower Merion downed host Bishop Shanahan, 1-0, in the Class AAA seventh place game.

The top seven teams qualify for the state tournament, which begins Tuesday.

Julie Reiff scored the game-winner in overtime off a free kick.

Council Rock South edged Conestoga, 1-0, in the fifth place game.

Inter-Ac. Kelsey Chapman scored twice and Alexis Giovinazzo turned away seven shots to help host Springside trip Notre Dame, 4-1.

Sinead Brierly and Breon West added goals for the Lions.

Mid-Atlantic Prep. Three first-half goals helped propel Hill School to an easy 3-0 home win over Hun School. Mary Edwards, Sara Graham and Lizzie Sullivan found the net.

Nonleague. Barrack Hebrew scored two goals in each half to ease past visiting Kohelet Yeshiva, 4-0. Nora Abel, Sivan Ben-Maimon, Jenna Glassman and Tamara Moskowitz each scored for the win.

 

Volleyball

Lansdale Catholic downed Masterman, 3-0, to capture the District 12 Class AA Championship at Lincoln.

The Crusaders advance to meet the runner-up from District 3 in the first round of the state tournament on Tuesday at Southern.
