Willingboro quarterback Tyrik Clouden lost track of the downs on his team's final possession Friday night in a game against host Northern Burlington.

Trailing by two points, his team was on the Greyhounds' 4-yard line when Clouden spiked the ball on a fourth-down play with 2.7 seconds remaining.

The miscue allowed Northern Burlington to finish off a 14-12 victory.

"I felt we got fortunate at the end," said Greyhounds coach Jon Reising, whose squad improved to 7-1. "Either one of the two teams could have won that game.

Story continues below.

Willingboro, which fell to 4-4, scored first on a 6-yard pass from Clouden to running back Jaheem Kendrick with 10 minutes, 6 seconds left in the first period. The score capped a 17-play, 80-yard drive, but Northern Burlington blocked the extra-point kick.

Not to be outdone, the Greyhounds came back with a long scoring drive of their own, only Northern made good on its conversion.

The touchdown came on a 6-yard run by Tosin Adeyemo at the beginning of the second period. When kicker Dan Hornyak booted the ball through the uprights for the extra point, Northern had a 7-6 edge.

After Adeyemo scored again with 5:44 remaining in the game to give his team a 14-6 lead, Willingboro answered with a 13-yard run by halfback Malcolm Culmer with 2:36 to go.

This time, the Chimeras went for two points and the tie, but Culmer's attempt to reach the end zone on a sweep around right end was thwarted by Northern.

Willingboro had one last chance to score when it took possession with less than three minutes left at its own 39-yard line.

The Chimeras reached the Greyhounds' 5-yard line with 28.3 seconds on the clock. After a no-gain run, an incomplete pass, and a 1-yard run, and with no timeouts left, Willingboro was looking at one last play to take the lead.

The Chimeras never got off a play, losing possession on the untimely spike.

After the final gun, Willingboro coach Reggie Lawrence looked elsewhere for the reason his team lost.

"Extra points," he said as he looked at the scoreboard. "I'll tell the team we're about to get ready to play again next week regardless of the situation."
