PENN 37, PRINCETON 9
At Franklin Field, the Quakers (5-3, 4-1 Ivy League) led 14-9 after 30 minutes. The Tigers (1-7, 1-4) blocked two punts in the opening quarter, taking over at the 11 both times. But they only managed a pair of field goals.
Billy Ragone passed for a career-best 254 yards and three TDs. Senior linebacker Erik Rask had a career-high 16 tackles, the most by a Quaker since 2005.
It was the Quakers' third consecutive four-TD win in this series, the first time that's happened. For the fifth straight meeting, Princeton failed to score more than nine points. In the last three games, Penn has scored 18 TDs to Princeton's two. And won the second halves, 65-0.
The Quakers now head to Harvard (7-1, 5-0), needing a win to keep their threepeat chances intact. They'll close at home against Cornell (3-5, 1-4).
VILLANOVA 35, UMASS 17
Who figured?
Not much has gone right for the Wildcats (2-8, 1-6 CAA). They hadn't beaten the Minutemen (5-4, 3-3), who are going to FBS and the MAC next season, since 2001 (0-4). And they hadn't beaten them on the road since 1978. It was the only CAA venue where Andy Talley hadn't won (0-7).
Playing an unranked opponent for the first time in six games, the Wildcats broke a five-game losing streak, and forced six turnovers; they had 11 before this.
They scored 28 second-quarter points. The last time they'd done that was 2008. Craig James had two fumble recoveries. The last time a Wildcat did that was 2004. James Pitts, the lone senior starter, had three interceptions after missing the last two games with an injury. No Wildcat had done that in 21 years.
True freshman Chris Polony was 20-for-31 for 183 yards and three TDs with no picks.
It's the second time they've scored 30. They won both.
Following a bye week, Villanova closes against Delaware (5-4, 3-3) at PPL Park.
