With its student supporters standing and watching soccer games on both sides of the bleachers, the Hill School split a pair of championship games in the inaugural Pennsylvania Independent Schools tournaments on Thursday at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown.

Hill avenged a 3-0 loss suffered on Sept. 24 by beating Episcopal Academy, 4-0, in the girls' soccer title game, and Haverford School blanked Hill, 2-0, in the boys' final.

Since its loss to the Churchmen, Hill (17-2-1) has won 14 straight games, and freshman goalie Julia Hernan made eight saves for the school's 10th shutout of the season. Sisters Emily and Elizabeth Sitko combined with co-captain Shannon Ruane to give defensive support to Hernan.

Carlianne McCabe, Katie Nappi and Katheyn Spaight added singles for the Irish.

The Fords' (17-2-1) defense allowed no shots on goalie Jeff Green en route to the school's 12th shutout this season, dealing Hill (14-4-1) its first loss in 13 games since Sept. 28.

Notre Dame, seeded No. 2, knocked off top-seeded and previously unbeaten Episcopal Academy, 2-0, in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools tournament championship match.

The visiting Irish (22-2-1), who tied and lost regular-season games against Episcopal (22-1-1), got unassisted second-half goals 15 minutes apart by Moira Putsch and Nora McCallion.

Notre Dame goalie Emily Fuss made six saves for her 13th shutout.
