Eastern romps in T of C semifinal

November 17, 2011|FOR THE INQUIRER

Freshman Austyn Cuneo continued her climb in the state field hockey record book, scoring four times and dishing out an assist in leading Eastern to an 8-1 victory over Freehold Borough on Thursday in a NJSIAA Tournament of Champions semifinal at Robbinsville High.

Cuneo pulled to within one of tying the New Jersey single-season mark of 69 goals set by another Vikings standout, Kelsey Mitchell, in 2009.

The record and the T of C title will be on the line on Sunday, when Eastern meets West Essex, 11 a.m., at The College of New Jersey.

Story continues below.

Jade Dixon scored twice, Carly Celkos contributed a pair of assists and Alana Barry made six saves. Emma Johansson and Karlee Spirit each added a goal, while Kasey Morano and Amanda Cooper chipped in one assist apiece for the Vikings (26-0), who have outscored their opponents, 208-14, this season.
