Phila. racing museum wins international honor

November 17, 2011

The Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia, a collection of 65 rare and significant race cars, was named museum of the year Wednesday at the International Historic Motoring Awards in London.

"This is an enormous honor for the Simeone Automotive Museum, especially considering the quality of the other institutions that were considered," said Fred Simeone of Chestnut Hill, executive director of the museum and a retired neurosurgeon. The judges included Tonight Show host Jay Leno, vintage-car racer and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, and five-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell. - Inquirer staff
