A 35-year-old West Virginia woman died Saturday in a two-vehicle crash in Chester County that closed Route 1 for about three hours, state police said today.

Police said Bonnie Lynn Porter of Paw Paw was traveling in the wrong direction on northbound Route 1 at Route 272 in West Nottingham Township at 3:35 a.m. when her 1990 Ford struck a 1998 Chevrolet head-on. Porter was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet, who was identified by police only as a Hispanic male, was airlifted to Christiana Hospital and remains in serious condition, police said. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash, and an investigation is continuing, police said.
