Two more Philly cops get arrested

Police announced the arrests today of two officers in separate incidents - one for alleged retail theft and the other for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Police said Darryl Cathey, 23, a two-year veteran assigned to Southwest Philadelphia's 12th District, was arrested for assaulting his ex-girlfriend. Cathey is charged with robbery, terroristic threats, simple assault and related offenses.

John Vandervort, 40, a four-year veteran who previously worked in West Philly's 19th District but was on a leave of absence due to an injury, was arrested and charged with retail theft and criminal conspiracy, police said.

Commissioner Charles Ramsey will suspend both officers for 30 days with intent to dismiss.

They are the 37th and 38th officers arrested during the past two years. Cathey is one of at least seven officers arrested in the same time period for allegedly roughing up a woman.
