Kim took the ensuing kickoff up the left side 50 yards before being pushed out at the Panthers' 35-yard line.
"I just read my blocks," Kim said. "I saw the kicker, so I just tried outrunning him. I was mad I didn't stay in and score, but I realized after it was better because they didn't have as much time."
Six plays later, Rams quarterback Alex Krivda, using a play-action fake, hit wingback James Marrero for a 7-yard touchdown with 51 seconds on the clock. Krivda and his coach both noticed Quakertown's defense creeping toward the line of scrimmage.
"We were really running a lot out of that formation, so we went to the play action there," Krivda said. "They stacked the box because of the run, so it was open."
"Whenever you fake to [sophomore back] Mike Class and you get the play action off of it, a lot of good things can happen," Rams coach Randy Cuthbert said.
Zach Midgett then connected on the extra point, and the Rams (7-5 overall, 5-2 league) went on to seal the win, extending their all-time advantage in the rivalry to 51-26-5.
Quakertown (5-7, 1-6) entered the game focused on pounding the football and controlling the clock, and that is exactly what the Panthers did.
But in the third quarter, leading by 14-6, the Panthers fumbled twice in Pennridge territory, squandering two opportunities to make it a two-score game.
Senior back Justin Wieder carried the ball 26 times for 140 yards for Quakertown.
"What it comes down to is the turnovers killed us. They cost us big," Wieder said. "I think we ran the ball very well today. It didn't go our way."
Panthers coach George Banas agreed.
"We turned the ball over on a couple key drives there in the second half where we could have put things away," he said.
Krivda, a junior, finished 5-for-9 passing for 153 yards and two touchdowns. He connected with wideout Cody Reimel on a 70-yard strike in the third quarter.
"We really wanted to let the seniors go out on top. They mean a lot to our team, really the heart and soul," Krivda said.
