Wed. S.J. boys' roundup: EHT wins in thriller

Justin Williams drained an eight-foot jumper with 1 second remaining in regulation, giving host Egg Harbor Township a 59-57 win over Mainland on Wednesday in a Cape-Atlantic League boys' basketball thriller.

Williams finished with 15 points in the Eagles' balanced attack, which also featured Rahim Bunch with 17 points and Tyler Dixon's 11 points. Mainland overcame a slow start, with Ted Mazzeio scoring 12 and Darius Jerkins and Pat Kugel netting 11 apiece.

In other Cape-Atlantic action:

Matt Bosch capped his 27-point performance by scoring 11 in the fourth quarter, enabling Ocean City to put away host Hammonton, 45-32. Christian Mortellite led the Blue Devils with 14 points.

Austin Johnson's 12 points and 11 rebounds led the way for St. Augustine, which ran out to a 17-4 lead in doubling up visiting Bridgeton, 52-26.

Olympic. Jerome Walters tossed in 18 points, including a pair of free throws that closed out the scoring in Woodrow Wilson's 68-64 win at Triton. Mikal Harris added 17 points, and Joseph Taylor and Sean Walters netted 13 apiece for the Tigers. Brian Keller's 22 points and 12 rebounds kept the Mustangs close.

Tavaris Headen provided Camden with an early spark by scoring 8 of his 12 points in the opening period, and Thomas Harper came alive in the second quarter - pumping in 12 of his 25 points - as the Panthers held on for a 62-53 victory at Cherokee.

Marc Schlessel and Jake Gurkin combined for 33 points and Cherry Hill East converted 6 of 7 free throws down the stretch to hand host Bishop Eustace its first loss, 65-55. Carson Puriefoy had 17 points while Trevor Norton nailed four treys in scoring 16 for the Crusaders.

Ryan Bodnar's 16 points topped Shawnee's scoring and Frank Destito provided the Renegades a presence in the paint, posting 11 rebounds and four blocked shots, in a 62-50 victory over visiting Seneca. Efthimios Mastrokyriakos (13 points) supplied perimeter scoring for the Golden Eagles.

Marquise McCormick (14 points), Mike Bach (13), and Wesley Lowber (11) led the charge for Washington Township's 63-51 win at Winslow Township. The Eagles' Adonius Melvins led all scorers with 16 points.

Mike Wilson knocked down four shots from beyond the arc in scoring 23, and Avery Walker battled inside for 10 points and 10 rebounds to help make host Eastern a 74-65 winner over Pennsauken.
