Three people were killed in a one-car accident Wednesday night near the Franklin Mills Mall in Northeast Philadelphia, authorities said.

A maroon 1995 Pontiac Grand Am was northbound on Franklin Mills Circle when the driver lost control and the car flipped just before 8 p.m., police said.

Two men were ejected and a woman was trapped inside, police and fire officials said.

The car hit three concrete barriers before it flipped over and finally came to rest on its hood, said Officer Tanya Little, a police spokeswoman.

Chief Inspector Scott Small said the car was traveling at a high rate of speed before the driver lost control.

"The impact was so severe that three of the four tires were torn from the car," he said, adding that the car's battery was ripped from its compartment.

All three victims were white and in their late teens to early 20s, police said.

The two men were pronounced dead at 8:12 p.m., Small said. A woman who was trapped in the passenger seat was extricated from the car and was pronounced dead at 8:28 p.m.

Police remained on the scene just before 10 p.m. No information on the identity of the victims was available, Small said.

Police tracked the car's registration to Bensalem. The victims' bodies were to be taken to the Medical Examiner Wednesday night.
