Wed. Pa. boys' roundup: Bistrong seals CHA victory

Jackson Bistrong used a second-period pin to apply the meet-clinching points for Chestnut Hill in a 44-34 Inter-Ac League wrestling victory over visiting Penn Charter on Wednesday.

After Joran Wang claimed a 23-second pin at 113 pounds for the Blue Devils, Bistrong stopped Jared Ominsky in 3 minutes, 30 seconds to seal the verdict. Chestnut Hill's George Kunkel (145 pounds) and Anthony Liddy (138) also won key matches.

Catholic. Jack Brenner had the fastest of six St. Joseph's Prep pins, using 54 seconds to win his 126-pound bout amid the host Hawks' 54-15 win over Archbishop Wood.

Central. Caleb Livingston (160), Charles Livingston (170), and Michael Kitain (182) each had pins in the first period while aiding Upper Darby's 55-10 win at Radnor.

Matt Venit started Ridley's 55-17 win over visiting Strath Haven with a 15-2 technical fall, and Matt Sauselein (160) and Sean Fechtelkotter (22) later added major decisions.

Suburban One. Council Rock North won six of seven weights from 106 to 145, including Tyler Kelly's 1-0 decision over Adrian DeAngelo at 138, en route to a 48-18 win at Abington.

Ches-Mont. West Chester Rustin battered visiting Great Valley, 52-12, behind technical falls from Evan Harkins at 132 and Tyler Wood (182).

Pins from Duncan Smucker (113), Jimmy Long (120), and Joshua Nichter (126) ignited West Chester Henderson's 48-19 triumph over visiting Avon Grove.

Unionville won, 66-12, over visiting Oxford as Will Hart's 31-second pin at 285 was the fastest of six Indians falls.

Pioneer Athletic. Consecutive first-minute pins by Jim Warta at 220 and Brad Trego at 285 gave Owen J. Roberts a 24-6 lead en route to a 68-6 win over visiting Boyertown.

Public. Pins by Angel Ramos at 145 and Wilfredo Cruz at 195 steered Olney past visiting Mastery Charter, 48-24. Mastery heavyweight Sherod Gambrell had the meet's quickest pin at 1:17.

Martin Luther King's Andrew Lee rallied from behind to get a third-period fall, and Jajuan Young added a second-period pin to a 60-18 win at West Philadelphia. West's Will Monaghan (170) hurried to a 32-second fall.

Friends Schools. Academy of the New Church's only win on the mat was Brandon Russell's pin at 152, but forfeits helped fill out a 42-18 win over visiting Abington Friends. The Lions also flattened Solebury School, 54-15 with early pins by Tristan Stevens-King at 182 and Erik Cranch at 195.

Nonleague. Glen Mills won four of five bouts from Justin Easter's 39-second pin at 170 to Charles Meriweather's forfeit at 285 and defeated visiting Pottstown, 47-27. Austin McCartney (220) and Elijah Nuble (182) also won in the upper weights.

 

Basketball

Roman Catholic used a balanced attack to defeat visiting Bishop McDevitt, 68-56, in the Catholic League. Britton Lee had 23 points and six assists, Shep Garner added 10 points and seven assists, and Secean Johnson combined 10 points with eight rebounds, offsetting a 26-point game by McDevitt's Brahieme Jackson.

Nonleague. Khayri King connected on a buzzer-beating shot from the wing to give Del-Val Charter a 26-24 thriller at Episcopal Academy.

Chestnut Hill made just one fourth-quarter field goal, but converted seven of 10 foul shots to secure a 42-40 win over visiting Shipley. Billy Dooley's 12 points and Mike Hayes' 11 paced the Blue Devils.
