The Independence re-signed their offensive MVP, Natasha Kai, who led the team in goals with nine, a total that tied for second in the league with Abby Wambach.

Kai also scored the game-winning goal in the 2-0 semifinal victory over magicJack that propelled the Independence into the 2011 WPS championship game.

"I'm very happy to re-sign and be back with such a great organization and to be part of an amazing family and team," Kai said. "Being here in Philly not only made me grow as a person but also as a player. I lost the love and passion I once had for the game and truthfully never thought I'd ever get it back, but being here made me find that passion and love for soccer again. It's the happiest I've ever been."

Coach Paul Riley is looking forward to another electrifying season from the 28-year-old forward and fan favorite.

"Tash was a revelation last year and we are excited to bring her back to Philly," Riley said. "She is an effervescent personality and has been superb both in the locker room and on the field. I expect another huge year from her."
