College Basketball: Knights stun Connecticut; Orange win

Freshman Eli Carter scored 19 points, and Rutgers beat a top-10 team for the second time this season, defeating No. 8 Connecticut, 67-60, in coach Jim Calhoun's return from a three-game NCAA suspension, in Piscataway, N.J.

Freshman Myles Mack added 14 points for the Scarlet Knights (9-7, 1-2 Big East), who beat then-No. 10 Florida, 85-83 in double overtime, on Dec. 29. The win snapped Connecticut's 10-game winning streak against Rutgers, going back to Jan. 30, 2002.

Syracuse 73, Marquette 66 - Kris Joseph scored 17 points, Brandon Triche added 16, and the top-ranked Orange (17-0, 4-0 Big East) remained unbeaten with a victory over No. 20 Marquette (12-4, 1-2). Darius Johnson-Odom led the visiting Eagles with 19 points.

West Virginia 74, Georgetown 62 - The ninth-ranked Hoyas (13-2, 3-1 Big East) had no answer for West Virginia's 1-2 punch of Kevin Jones and Truck Bryant, as the Mountaineers (12-4, 3-1) ended visiting Georgetown's 11-game winning streak. Jones, the Big East's leading scorer and rebounder, had 22 points and 16 rebounds.

Notre Dame 67, Louisville 65 - Eric Atkins scored six points in the second overtime, propelling the Irish (10-6, 2-1 Big East) to a win at No. 11 Louisville (13-3, 1-2). Jack Cooley led the Irish with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Kyle Kuric and Chane Behanan each scored 17 for Louisville

St. John's 57, Cincinnati 55 - Moe Harkless' putback at the buzzer gave the Red Storm (8-7, 2-2 Big East) a victory that ended a seven-game winning streak by the host Bearcats (12-4, 2-1).
