Pa. Girls: Ridley turns back upset bid by Academy Park, 45-40

Bree Mulhern's late foul shooting helped host Ridley get past upset-minded Academy Park, 45-40, in nonleague basketball on Thursday.

The Green Raiders (10-4) trailed by 25-19 at halftime as Academy Park (3-8) got 15 points in the game from Brianna Macauley and 14 by Jordan Matthews.

Sam Foy (17 points) fueled the Ridley comeback and Mulhern (11) converted a pair of key foul shots in the final 30 seconds.

In other nonleague action, Conwell-Egan was down by a point after three quarters, but rallied past host Lower Moreland, 38-33. Meg Horn scored 16 points and Brittany Liszewski 11 to offset a 17-point game by the Lions' Allie Morganstein.

Ches-Mont. Octorara trailed visiting Sun Valley by 10 points entering the fourth quarter, but stormed back to win, 51-47, as Tyisha White scored 10 of her 19 points in the last 8 minutes.

Great Valley's defense dominated a 37-17 win at Oxford, and Maddie Buettner led the Patriots' offense with 14 points.

West Chester Rustin pinned a 50-31 setback on visiting Kennett with Adaja Franklin's 17 points and Mikayla Doane's 6 steals.

Downingtown West scored 19 of the game's first 21 points, including 11 by Brittany Sicinski (23), en route to a 65-37 triumph at West Chester Henderson.

Suburban One. Senior Alex Wheatley registered 21 points, 12 rebounds and 7 steals to help keep fourth-ranked Council Rock South (11-0) unbeaten with a 52-43 win over visiting Pennsbury.

Pioneer Athletic. Methacton's win streak reached six games with a 59-30 victory over visiting Pope John Paul II. Jenna Carroll had 13 points and 8 rebounds among four Warriors in double figures.

Catholic. Haley Scullion's 11 points topped a dozen Archbishop Wood players who scored during a 67-24 win at Little Flower.

Del-Val. Chester's second win of the week was a 40-34 verdict at Interboro in which Janera Handy scored 16 points.

Chichester sophomores Haley Sipple (15) and Logan Newman (17) helped the Eagles to a 20-point halftime lead by hitting eight points each by intermission.

Catholic Academies. Fifth-ranked Mount St. Joseph defeated visiting Nazareth Academy, 57-35, as sophomore guards Alex Louin (20) and Carly Monzo (14) combined for 20 points in a 31-16 first half.

Friends Schools. Sophomore Becca Hayden's debut as a point guard for George School resulted in a 12-point performance and a 27-23 win over visiting Friends Select as she scored 10 points in a 15-4 second-half rally.
