Tues. Pa. girls' roundup: Mount St. Joseph hangs on

Bridget Higgins' shot hung on the rim for a brief, tense moment before it fell in and lifted Mount St. Joseph over visiting Catholic Academies basketball foe Villa Maria, 31-30, on Tuesday afternoon.

Higgins finished with eight points, six rebounds, and a pair of assists. Her game-winning shot came with just 1.5 seconds left and answered the go-ahead layup by Villa's Lisa Mirarchi with 13.3 seconds left.

In other Catholic Academies action, Caroline Shimrock scored six of her 12 points in the second quarter and grabbed seven rebounds as visiting Gwynedd-Mercy knocked off Villa Joseph Marie, 49-43.

Catholic. Brooke Lachette's layup with 27 seconds left proved to be the game-winner as Archbishop Prendergast held off visiting Little Flower, 38-37.

The Sentinels had a chance to tie with two-tenths of a second left, but were able to sink only one of two foul shots. Rosie O'Halloran led Prendie with a game-high 14 points.

Megan Wolf scored 11 points and Alison Szyszko had nine as Archbishop Ryan rolled over host West Catholic, 64-19.

Amanda Linder dropped in five points in the first quarter as St. Hubert built a large cushion before cruising past visiting Hallahan, 74-23. The Bambies led 23-3 after the opening period.

Point guard Mary Kate Brokans scored all 12 of her points in the first quarter as host Lansdale Catholic easily turned away Bishop McDevitt, 64-21.

Omawumi Rafiu grabbed 17 rebounds and Maureen Fiocca poured in 15 points as Neumann-Goretti skated past visiting Conwell-Egan, 69-25.

Friends Schools. Maria Conyers-Jordan scored 15 of her 17 points in the first quarter and added nine steals as visiting Friends' Central eased past Academy of the New Church, 54-8.

Jordyn Turner had 11 points and 11 rebounds as Shipley rolled at Germantown Friends, 54-18. Sox Alexander chipped in with six steals and 15 points.

Suburban One. Senior guard Cassidy Koenig scored her 1,000th career point on a three-pointer in the second quarter as Upper Merion easily turned away visiting Upper Moreland, 58-24. Koening hit six threes and has drained 39 this season.

Deja Rawls poured in seven of her team-high 13 points in the second quarter as Abington rolled past visiting Truman, 65-37.

Ming Seawright hauled in 10 rebounds and Ciara Andrews recorded seven steals as host Cheltenham downed Wissahickon, 57-25.

Sajanna Bethea grabbed 12 rebounds and Jae Jackson hauled in seven as Pennsbury topped visiting William Tennent, 52-41.
