A woman was killed today when a dump truck carrying sand flipped and landed on her SUV in Cherry Hill.

The truck, which was traveling west on Haddonfield-Berlin Road, swerved to avoid a vehicle emerging from Morris Drive, a side street, and trying to make a left turn. The truck fell on a Lexus RX350 that was heading east, said Lt. Bill Kushina, a spokesman for the Cherry Hill police.

The sand in the truck shifted and the truck fell on its side atop the SUV around 11:50 a.m., Kushina said.

The woman, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of family, was killed at the scene, he said.

The truck, which spilled sand over the roadway and on top of the Lexus, was operated by MJF Materials of Berlin, police said.

Haddonfield-Berlin Road was closed in both directions from Browning Lane to Evesham Road, and police said it would be closed through rush hour. Morris Drive near the Haddonfield-Berlin Road intersection was closed in both directions.

The driver of the truck was shaken up but not seriously injured, police said.
