Owls lose offensive coordinator, gain wideout

Temple lost an offensive mind the same day it gained an offensive standout.

Romond Deloatch, a senior wideout from Phoebus High School in Hampton, Va., gave Temple an oral commitment Sunday afternoon.

Hours later, the Owls announced that offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler had resigned to take the same position at Auburn.

"Auburn is one of the special jobs and special places in college athletics, with a tremendous amount of history and tradition," Loeffler, 37, said in a news release issued by Auburn. "It's an honor to be joining Coach [Gene] Chizik's staff and I'm very appreciative of this opportunity."

Loeffler, an Ohio native and Michigan alumnus, was named the Owls' offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach shortly after Steve Addazio was hired as Temple's head coach in December 2010. Addazio and Loeffler coached at Florida under Urban Meyer.

"I am very happy for Scot and his family," Addazio said in a statement. "This is a great opportunity for him and his career. We are very grateful for his contributions to Temple, and we certainly understand that when our great coaches have opportunities, it's a compliment to our program.

"We wish Scot nothing but the best. He will always have a special place here at Temple."

The Owls hope that Deloatch also will have a special place at Temple.

The 6-foot-4, 213-pounder chose the Owls' scholarship over offers from Cincinnati, East Carolina, and Marshall.

Deloatch made his commitment after an official visit to Temple over the weekend.

He originally expected to stop at the North Broad Street campus on Friday and then visit Virginia Tech on Saturday and Sunday. However, Deloatch changed his mind after his Temple visit.
