Dan Gross: WDAS host marks 30 years on the dial

January 24, 2012|By Dan Gross

TODAY MARKS 30 years in radio for 105.3 WDAS midday host Patty Jackson.

The lifelong Philadelphian is heard 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday and also from 9 a.m. to noon Sundays on WDAS.

Jackson started her radio career at Camden's WSSJ and later worked at Power 99 and Q102, but has called 'DAS home for many years. Clear Channel is celebrating Jackson's anniversary with a breakfast for staff and friends at WDAS' Bala Cynwyd studio.

Story continues below.

"I feel blessed to be working 30 years straight in a career that has spanned up and down the dial. . . . I love my listeners, and they've rewarded me by loving me back," says Jackson, who also writes a weekly entertainment column for the Philadelphia Tribune.

OUT AND ABOUT

State Sen. Mike Stack hosted several of his Democratic colleagues Friday to show off his hometown and maybe get his fellow senators to look more favorably on Philly in their voting. They dined at Bliss (224 S. Broad), followed by the show "Memphis" at the Academy of Music. Guests included state Sens. Judy Schwank, of Reading; Lisa Boscola, of Lehigh Valley; John Blake, of Scranton, and John Yudichak of Luzerne County.

Local state Sens. Larry Farnese, Shirley Kitchen, LeAnna Washington and Tony Williams were also at Bliss, where Mayor Nutter and U.S. Rep. Bob Brady stopped by to press the flesh.

* Stylist Carson Kressley,

formerly of "Dancing with the Stars" and "Queer Eye," stopped by Teplitzky's at the Chelsea in Atlantic City for breakfast while in town hosting the Miss'd America drag pageant at Boardwalk Hall.

* Ex-Eagles

punter Sean Landeta and his wife, Donna, belatedly celebrated Sean's 50th birthday with friends Sy Presten, a New York publicist, and wife Joanne.

Sean says he makes more appearances and meet-and-greets now than he ever made during more than 20 years in the NFL.

Keep on dancin'

We recently told you that "Dancin' on Air" would soon return to Channel 17 with new episodes on Saturday mornings, and then that former "Dancin' on Air" regular Kerri Gallagher was working to produce two dance shows of her own.

What we didn't share was that another former "Dancin' on Air" regular, Antoinette Levins Conville, is producing two dance shows for WMCN-TV (Channel 44).

Antoinette and father, Frank Levins, who was a "Bandstand" dancer, are behind "Party Starters," which airs from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Mondays, and "D2XX," which airs from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays. The latter features Antoinette's son Mikey, who attends Washington Township High. Three generations of family TV dancers are participating in Antoinette's shows, which, she says, deliver an anti-bullying message.

Attention, hipsters

A second "Portlandia" show has been added Feb. 19 at the Trocadero (1003 Arch), after the first one sold out. "SNL" player Fred Armisen and musician/actress Carrie Brownstein perform a live version of their IFC show.

Tickets are available at TheTroc.com for that show, as well as for one featuring Brownstein's band, Wild Flag, which plays there April 3.
