A 19-year-old man was fatally shot last night in Coatesville, authorities said.

Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said Tre L. Davis of Coatesville was shot about 11:30 p.m. and pronounced dead at Brandywine Hospital shortly after midnight.

Coatesville Police and Chester County Detectives worked throughout the night and are pursuing multiple leads, the release said. "We will work around the clock to break this case," Hogan said in a statement. "Violent crimes like this are a stark reminder of why Coatesville needs a strong and fully-staffed police department.

Facing difficulty balancing Coatesville's budget, City Manager Gary Rawlings has proposed cuts in the police force.

According to court records, Davis spent a couple of weeks in Chester County Prison in the fall after being charged with simple assault, harassment, and related offenses. However, the charges were dismissed at his preliminary hearing on Oct. 24.

Dispatchers said the call regarding the shooting came in at 11:40 p.m. with a location of Third Avenue and Oak Street, which was then revised to the 200 block of New Street.
