Despite widespread web reports Friday of his switching his football commitment to Florida from Penn State, Skyler Mornhinweg was still not talking. At least not publicly.

"I still think he's going to wait until Monday to make any kind of announcement," St. Joseph's Prep coach Gabe Infante said Saturday afternoon.

Of the reports about the Hawks quarterback's choosing to play for the Gators, Infante said, "It was more perplexing than anything else. He's had positive conversations with all the schools involved."

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Mornhinweg reconsidered his July commitment to Penn State after the school was rocked by a child sexual abuse scandal in November.

Story continues below.

Last week, days after Mornhinweg took an official trip to Florida, three Gators coaches, including boss Will Muschamp and recently hired offensive coordinator Brent Pease, came to town for a visit.

Pease and Mornhinweg's father, Marty, the Eagles offensive coordinator, both played quarterback at Division I-AA Montana.

Also stopping by the Prep last week were a pair of Virginia Tech representatives: quarterbacks coach Mike O'Cain and associate head coach Shane Beamer, the son of head coach Frank Beamer.

While he did not make it to Philly, Frank Beamer, Infante said, "really made clear his desire to have Skyler play for him."

On Jan. 15, Mornhinweg, who passed for 1,700 yards and 21 touchdowns last season while leading the Hawks to a 7-4 mark, was one of about a dozen recruits to meet with new Penn State coach Bill O'Brien in State College.

Following that visit, the Nittany Lions received a commitment from Cairo (Ga.) High quarterback Steven Bench, a three-star prospect by Rivals.com who had previously committed to Rice.
