Skip Is Looking A Bit Squirrely

  • Skip Schumaker's Topps card features squirrel that ran onto field during NLDS last season.

SKIP SCHUMAKER looks bright-eyed and bushy- tailed on his 2012 Topps baseball card.

Actually, only the pant leg and cleat of the outfielder are visible. The rest of the card features the now-famous rally squirrel that ran onto the field during Game 4 of the NLDS against the Phillies at Busch Stadium last season.

Topps will also print a more traditional card featuring a photo of Schumaker, who was facing Roy Oswalt in the fifth inning when the rodent darted past home plate.

But the card collectors might have sported a portrait of a less lively squirrel if Phillies manager Charlie Manuel had been armed that night.

Story continues below.

"Being from the South and being a squirrel hunter, if I had a gun right there, I might have done something," Manuel told the Daily News ' Ed Barkowitz after the game. "I'm a pretty good shot."

Write stuff

Phil Jackson, who won 11 NBA titles as head coach of the Bulls and Lakers, is writing a memoir called "Eleven Rings."

There's no truth to the rumor that Andy Reid is working on one titled "No Rings."
