Tom Kirk, a respected and successful coach with the Cougars CYO youth program, has been tabbed to replace longtime football boss Jim Algeo at Lansdale Catholic.

"To be chosen as the person to take Mr. Algeo's place, it's really quite an honor," said Kirk, 51. "I have a tremendous amount of respect for him."

Kirk, a running back at Archbishop Wood (Class of 1978) and Delaware Valley College (1982), coached CYO ball the last eight years. After college, he was a running backs coach at Wood for three seasons.

Kirk's son, Sean, played for Algeo, who posted a 293-183-15 record in 44 seasons and won a PIAA Class AA state championship in 2004.
