In a move of transcendent wisdom, the city of Hoboken, N.J., hometown of super-celeb showbiz legend Frank Sinatra, has rejected a request by the producers of MTV's Jersey Shore to film a spin-off of the reality series in the mile-square enclave on the Hudson.

Mayor Dawn Zimmer said the town's Film Commission worried that the project might compromise the safety and quality of life of city residents. 495 Productions wanted a 24-hour filming permit to record the adventures of two "well-known reality television celebrities" who would relocate to the city and would probably go to bed about the time the rest of the city woke up.

Story continues below.

No word on who those celebs would be, but the Jersey Journal reported last month that MTV was scouting digs for Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Jenni "JWoww" Farley - formidable talents, perhaps, but not likely to impress a town that knew Ol' Blue Eyes back when.

GOP stalwart Snooki disses Christie

In other Shore news, Snooki, Chile's answer to migraine headaches, went after Republican N.J. Gov. Christie in a big way on Twitter Wednesday. Snooki has GOP cred - she was good Twitter buds with Sen. John McCain during the '08 presidential election. Well, as of 2012, Christie doesn't like her show, hates its image of Jersey (we can't imagine why), calls the cast "losers" (what?), and vetoed a tax break for the show's production company.

Snooki's diss would have bite if she had the facts - she seems to think Christie is running for president, which he isn't, and so she tweets: "I will not be voting for Chris Christie. Love always, the "buffoons" from that degrading Jersey Shore show." Oh, and BTW, she tweets she is not pregnant, thank God.

First lady campaigns for fitness

She may not be running for office, but Michelle Obama has a message for the American people: Take care of yourself, eat right, exercise. She lays out her vision in an interview with Prevention magazine, which carries her photo on the cover of the current edition. The first lady reveals that at age 48, she's in the best shape ever. "I work out 6 or 7 days a week. But I do yoga now twice a week, because I'm beginning to notice as I get older that flexibility and mobility are critical." In life and politics.
