Eagles' McCoy predicts Giant progress

INDIANAPOLIS - All things being equal, LeSean McCoy would rather have been in Philadelphia yesterday.

Breathing the same air as the hated Giants - who will face the Patriots Sunday in Super Bowl XLVI and are bunking just a half-block away from where the Eagles running back received the FedEx Ground Player of the Year award - wasn't easy.

He could have taken a rain check like FedEx's Air Player of the Year winner Drew Brees. But McCoy felt he owed it to the Eagles to be there and represent the organization the right way.

"It's bigger than that," he said. "I've got to represent my team and my franchise the right way. I'm here more out of respect. I think the coaches and Mr. Lurie would be happy that I'm here, representing the Eagles the right way."

McCoy flew to Indianapolis from Hawaii, where he participated in his first Pro Bowl on Sunday. Had just two carries and lost a fumble in the NFC's 59-41 loss to the AFC. He readily admitted he was one of the guys Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was talking about earlier this week when he said some of the NFC players "embarrassed themselves" with their lack of effort in the game.

"It was tough getting up for that game," he said. "You walk around every practice. Before the game, we're going at this slow pace, very easy. When you get out there, you see guys just half-doing it and you do the same thing."

McCoy didn't half-do anything this season, rushing for 1,309 yards and an NFL-high 17 rushing touchdowns. He was named first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press. Despite winning their last four games, the Eagles finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs for the third time in the last 7 years.

McCoy had 100-plus-yard performances in both of the Eagles' games against the Giants, including 113 in a 17-10, Week 11 Eagles win. Yet the Giants are shooting for their second Super Bowl title in 5 years and the Eagles' season has been over for a month.

While he expects New York to win Sunday, he thinks the Eagles are every bit as talented as the Giants.

"I thought we were gelling at the end," he said. "We were playing together. We were playing Eagles football. We were doing the small things, like not turning the ball over. At one point, we were one of the top teams in the league in turnovers. You can't win by turning the ball over like that.
