Three Philadelphia firefighters were injured, one critically, when they became trapped on a third floor while fighting a rowhouse fire early Sunday in North Philadelphia.
Three or four residents of the multi-family house in the 1600 block of North 20th Street, including a baby a few days old, were also injured, Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers said. They inhaled smoke and were treated at Hahnemann University Hospital, he said.
Ayers identified the seriously injured firefighter as Lt. Marvin Melvin, a member of the department since 1999. He is assigned to Engine 27, located at 19th and Master streets.
