College Basketball: Orange win; Boeheim ties Smith

Jim Boeheim tied Dean Smith for third place on the all-time victory list with win No. 879 as No. 2 Syracuse dominated St. John's, 95-70, Saturday in a Big East game in Madison Square Garden.

Boeheim trails only fellow Hall of Famers Mike Krzyzewski (919) and Bob Knight (902) on the career wins list.

Fab Melo scored a career-high 14 points for the Orange (23-1, 10-1). D'Angelo Harrison had 23 points for the Red Storm (10-13, 4-7).

Georgetown 75, South Florida 45 - Henry Sims scored 13 points and nine rebounds, and the No. 14 Hoyas (18-4, 8-3 Big East) beat the Bulls (13-10, 6-4) in Washington.

Notre Dame 76, Marquette 59 - Freshman Pat Connaughton had 23 points and 11 rebounds, and the Irish (15-8, 7-3 Big East) made 11 three-pointers in the upset in South Bend, Ind. Marquette (19-5, 8-3) had won seven straight Big East games.

Louisville 78, Rutgers 66 - Chane Behanan scored 23 points as the Cardinals (18-5, 6-4 Big East) beat visiting Rutgers (12-12, 4-7). Eli Carter had 24 points for the Knights.

UConn 69, Seton Hall 46 - Ryan Boatright scored 19 points and the Huskies (15-7, 5-5 Big East), beat the Pirates (15-8, 4-7) in Hartford.

 Kentucky 86, South Carolina 52 - Anthony Davis shot 9 for 10 from the floor for 22 points as the No. 1 Wildcats (23-1, 9-0 Southeast Conference) blitzed the Gamecocks (1-7, 9-13) in Columbia, S.C., for their 15th straight win.

Ohio State 58, Wisconsin 52 - Jared Sullinger scored 24 points and William Buford hit a critical three-pointer down the stretch as the No. 2 Buckeyes (20-3, 8-2 Big Ten) beat the Badgers (18-6, 7-4) in Madison, Wis.

Iowa 77, Penn State 64 - The Lions (10-14, 2-9 Big Ten) fell to the Hawkeyes (13-11, 5-6) in Iowa City. Tim Frazier led Penn State with 23 points, and five assists and joined Talor Battle and Joe Crispin (Pitman High) as the third Lion with at least 400 points and 150 assists in a season.

North Carolina 83, Maryland 74 - Tyler Zeller scored 22 points as the No. 5 Tar Heels (20-3, 7-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) rallied from a nine-point deficit in the second half to top the Terps (13-9, 3-5) in College Park, Md.

Delaware 85, James Madison 80 - Jamelle Hagins scored a career-high 23 points as the Blue Hens (11-12, 7-6 Colonial Athletic Association) defeated the Dukes (10-15, 3-10) in Harrisonburg, Va.

Bloomsburg 82, Cheyney 72 - Brandon Baylor and Jason Sabb (Southern) each scored 19 points and Sabb added 13 rebounds but the Wolves (3-17, 2-14 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) fell to the visiting Huskies (15-6, 11-5).

West Chester 81, Millersville 70 - Jon Breedon had 15 points as the Rams (11-9, 8-8 PSAC) defeated visiting Millersville (7-13, 5-11).

Philadelphia 85, Concordia 70 - Jim Connolly (Souderton) scored 24 points as the Rams (14-6, 9-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference) topped visiting Concordia(10-11, 7-6).

Caldwell 85, Holy Family 55 - Khiry Hankins scored 14 points but the Tigers (10-10, 6-6 CACC) fell to visiting Caldwell (12-9, 7-7).

Dominican 70, Univ. of the Sciences 60 - Garret Kerr (Middle Township) and Henry Messenger each had 14 points but the Devils (3-16, 1-11 CACC) fell to the visiting Chargers (13-7, 6-6).
