Services begin today for Cardinal Bevilacqua

The public will able to pay its last respects to Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua today and Tuesday at the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul in Philadelphia.

After a private viewing at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, the body of the former leader of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, who died in his sleep last week at age 88, will be taken to the cathedral.

Public viewings will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The Funeral Mass is scheduled to start at 2 p.m., with Archbishop Charles Chaput as the chief celebrant and Monsignor Louis D'Addezio as the homilist.

Cardinal Bevilacqua's body will be entombed in the Cathedral Crypt below the main altar.
